I - Could you tell us about how you became involved with Photography and realised you wanted to be a Photographer?

O - It happened just three years ago when I came to London. I didn’t speak English at all so my only way to express myself was through a camera. I had never taken pictures before, but I had the need to express myself and stop being invisible for everyone. From that moment everything start to go so fast.

I - Do you think that Photography has changed you in any way? What do you love most about Photography?

O - I don’t think so. I just photograph things that I have seen before in my thoughts; the only difference is that now I capture it with my camera. What I love the most is the silence in that process.

I - Do you have any favourite pieces of equipment you couldn’t live without?

O - I like to shoot with prime lenses, but equipment with todays technology is not that important. The important thing for me is to have something to express, to have the need and most important “the eye”.

I - How do you keep yourself motivated when it comes to creating your editorials?

O - Its easy cause it give me peace. It’s my meditation. I just immerse myself in that spiritual universe and go with the flow.

I - Could you tell us a little bit about the concept behind your editorials we featured?

O - The concept always is the representation of my muses; the ancestors of my creativity and my soul.

I - Do you have any tips for Photographers/Creatives at the start of their journey?

O - My only tip is be yourself. There are thousands of Photographers doing the same kind of pictures with the same look. Just try to deepen into yourself and bring out your own perspective about photography. Maybe it's not trendy, but it’s yours and most importantly…it´s you.

I - Amongst your work do you have a favourite, and why?

O - Well, I have a few pictures that I really love like this cover magazine, but I don’t like to choose between my children. I prefer when the audience does it for me.

I - We see from your website that you have won several awards. What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment to date?

O - Well, on my photography the nomination as a best portrait of the year from Sony World Photo was something special because at that moment it was just four months ago since I had grabbed a camera for the first time, and it was quite amazing to see my work at Somerset House in London.

I - Is there anything key in the future your aiming for?

O - So many! I would love to shoot at least once for a big magazine like Vogue or Elle,  something within which black creatives can show the world their own essence. Also, I would like to do a big exhibition in United States, in a minimalistic space and maybe shoot some old fashion icons like Naomi Campbell. Dream is free!!

I - Thank you for featuring within  INTRA. Where could viewers find more information about you and connect with your work?

O - Thank you for having me. You can find my work on my Instagram
( _okobe_ ) or on mywebsite  www.okobephoto.
