Interview with Model Jade Houtekins
Tell us a bit about your story, did you always want to be a model?
So, I always had a dream : being a model, because this is a huge inspiration for me. Being in front of cameras, it's so exciting. It's a bit similar than being an actress, all shoots are differents, there are differents themes etc. And you are trying to be someone different everytime, someone new, to reveal an other part of yourself. You are playing a role. But even if you change your character, you have to have your own style, your signature. It's the same when you are on the catwalk.
Why did you choose to pursue a career as a model?
I choose to pursue a career as a model because it was my dream, it is still my dream and we have only one life. So let's accomplish our dreams. I don't want to have any regret.
What do you enjoy most about modelling?
What I enjoy the most is being in contact with so many people. Incredible photographers and models, magazines.. Etc. They are all sources of inspiration. I learn so much from every people I discovered. I love to improve myself everytime I'm shooting, or everytime I'm on a runway.
Could you tell us a bit about the shoot that you have modelled for that is in our magazine? Does it’s meaning have any significance for you?
About the shoot right here, It was so exciting because there were one of the first shoots I've done. The photographers are amazing @lumieredusud and @livaolivier. The atmosphere are so relaxing. This is have a meaning for me because it was the beginning of my career. The begging of my dream. I will never forget.
What is you biggest accomplishment so far?
My biggest accomplishment so far is being inside magazines. Being in your magazine is such a great honor.
What do you hope to accomplish through modelling, do you have any big goals for the future?
I hope being an international model, being scout by huge agency like Elite or IMG for exemple.
If you could choose to work with anyone, your dream brand who would you want to model for?
The brand I would like to work with because I admire her so far is Balmain. I love Olivier Rousteing so much. And His personal history is similar to mine. He's also the fresh air of Balmain. His ideas are so moderns. And the second brand is Jacquemus. I am a huge fan. I love the provincial vibe of his collections. Because I'm French too (even if I was adopted IN China) and I live in the south of France.
Are their any models you look up too the most?
The models I admire are Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss and Adriana Lima. They have left a print in the model industry, in this fashion industry they are for me myths.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I would like to change some of the criteriasof the industry. That women less 1m70 tall could be scouted more easily. Personally I'm 1m65 tall. And this is my everyday struggle. I love the fact that all girls from differents ethnies are accepted. This is so important to show the beauty of all the women of the world.
What would be your dream shoot set up?
The shoot I would love to do is a shoot with wild animals. Cheetahs, leopards or lions. This is so exciting. But I want this shoot to be in good conditions with animals that are good take care.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
The best advice was given by my mother "do whatever you want" and "never let someone tell you that you can't do something". I love her so much. I own her so many things. She always push me, she always got my back. I want to make her and my father proud.
Do you have any tips for people who want to start in the modelling industry?
If I had to give some advice to people who would like to start modeling : never give up, manage to accomplish your dream even if you're not "tall enough" or something else "not tiny enough", "not beautiful enough". These are liars , just be you. And reveal your potential. You are PRECIOUS. Always got that in mind.
