My name is Tyree’ K Lewis but I go by Calypso in the modeling industry. I am a 22 years old Graduate student at Morgan State University, Fashion Designer, Creative Director and Fashion Show Producer. I am from Newark, New Jersey but currently reside in Baltimore, Maryland.
What sparked your interest in Directing?
I got interested in directing about three years ago when I started my modeling agency, The House of Calypso.
What would you say is the most challenging part of being a creative director?
The most challenging part sometimes is getting the models to put theirself in the role they're supposed to be playing in the shoot.
we absolutely love these image, How do you think you found your style?
I found my style by experimenting a lot and also finding inspiration. It is imperative to know your model, know their strengths and weaknesses and building/ altering a project off of that sometimes.
Could you tell us more about the concept behind this, how did these images come to life?
With these images I thought of TULLE. I wanted to do a mixture of “Girls Just want to have Fun” mixed with males using a prop that can often looked at as “femimine” and adding masculinity to it.
What has been your favourite campaign to date?
To date, my favorite campaign has to be Harlem, no Renaissance. It embodies women empowerment and women being able to take back the power that men often take from them.
What is the Best advice someone has told you?
The best advice that I was told is to learn the industry and figure out what makes me stand out from everyone else and stay true to that.
And what’s the Best advice you have given / would give to someone?
I tell people all the time to be proactive. The world stops for no one so be sure to seek opportunities and create some for yourself.
For an up coming creative, what advice would you give?
For an up and coming creative, learn you. Be okay with taking time to perfect your craft and remember quality is better than quantity.
Anything on your bucket list?
On my bucket list currently is to get a full studio space as well as creatively direct a celebrity.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In the next 5 years I see myself owning my own space as well as working with big time celebrities.
As this magazine is being released on New Years eve we have to ask, What are some plans of yours for 2021? Any big projects you are looking forward to? Or any goals you are hoping to reach?
For 2021 I have plans on producing my 6st and 7th fashion show as well as getting ready for Fashion Weeks.
